Dennis R. Black, Vice President for Student Affairs, SUNY at Buffalo (UB), opened the March, 2008 issue of the UB Student Affairs Leadership Letter, UB Leaders for Life, with the following remarks to the alumni:
"As a UB student, you took the initiative to get involved. You participated in a club sport, fraternity or sorority, or another student organization. Maybe you worked as an Orientation Aide or Resident Assistant or were involved in Student Association. Getting involved in the college says something about you now. College students who participate in out-of-classroom activities succeed at higher levels and generally achieve more of their personal goals after graduation. (Italics mine) We hope the lessons you learned here at UB have helped you succeed. Your participation helped UB grow and for that, we all thank you. We hope you will stay involved with your university for a lifetime."
I thought this gives a good example of the importance of a college student to get involved and assume a leadership role while in school.
